Minister Gatete calls for effective aid coordination

Rwanda’s Minister OF Finance and Economic Planning, Ambassador Claver Gatete has called for increased joint programming and Energy in supporting development in aid recipient countries.

The Minister made the remarks while in Mexico City, Mexico where he is attending the first high level meeting of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Cooperation.

“We need more effective coordination among donors and recipient governments to avoid duplication and overlaps which increases transaction costs,” Gatete said.

The two-day forum attracted high level participants including heads of state and government, ministers, parliamentarians and leaders from international organizations, business, civil society and foundations.

The forum sessions focused their discussions on   transparent, ensuring developing countries are in the lead, and focusing on results based development cooperation in order to have real and sustainable impact in countries where aid is sent.

Rwanda has been hailed for its accountability and implementation of donor aid an aspect that have seen the World Bank and the Global fund deliver more funds for the economic and social development programs in Rwanda.

In February this year, Dr. Mark Dybul, the Executive Director of Global Fund said that Rwanda has proved its worth over the last decade by using the earlier funding appropriately, which is reason why the Global fund is interested in assisting Rwanda towards development.

Adding that being a result oriented country, Rwanda’s success in utilizing Global Fund resources has led to signing a new grant.

“Rwanda has been accountable and an example for us in using the funds and that is why we are confident that these funds will be used to meet the required results”.  We are very sure that this funding will have an impact on the citizens and also contribute to the global goals we have set” Dybul said.
