Govt bonds rolled onto the Rwandan bourse as shares boom

Today was the official listing and commencement of trading of the three year Government bond, FXD1/2014/3YRS issued last week in Kigali, Rwanda.

The bond joins two listed Treasury bonds that will mature in 2016 and 2015 with periodic interest of 11.25 percent and 11 percent per annum, respectively and I&M Rwanda corporate bonds maturing in 2017.

A total of Rwf12, 000,000 worth of Treasury bonds were transacted in three deals today at 99.627 assuming a yield to maturity of 11.625 percent.

At the close of business, there were the treasury Bonds bids worth Rwf101 million between the prices of 99.00 and 99.627 and there were no offers while the I&M Rwanda bond counter was silent.

The RSE share index (RSI) continued to go up as it reached 263.84 an increase of 2.02 points from yesterday’s index as a result of a Rwf10 appreciation in Bralirwa share price.

The market recorded 601,000 BoK shares and 6,700 Bralirwa shares valued at Rwf 186,133,100 in six deals compared to the previous trading session which recorded a total turnover of Rwf 28,075,000 from 8,500 BoK shares and 29,200 Bralirwa shares traded in four deals.

BoK shares traded between Rwf300-332 and closed at Rwf332, unchanged from yesterday’s closing price whereas Bralirwa counter traded at a high of Rwf875 and low of Rwf865, before closing at Rwf875, increasing by Rwf10 from yesterday’s closing price.

KCB shares last transacted at Rwf185 while NMG and Uchumi Supermarket shares last transacted at Rwf1,200 and Rwf175 respectively. At the end of formal trading hours, there were outstanding bids of 183,700 BoK shares between Rwf300-333 and outstanding offers of 14,500 shares between Rwf340-350.

On Bralirwa counter, there was an outstanding offer of 26,400 shares at Rwf890 and outstanding bids of 88,300 shares between Rwf855-865.

On KCB counter; there were outstanding bids of 12,500 shares between Rwf175-180 and no outstanding offers. On NMG counter; there was an outstanding bid of 1,000 shares at Rwf1, 200 and no outstanding offers. On USL counter; there was an outstanding offer of 5,000 shares at Rwf175 and no outstanding bids.

This week the RSE market activity was lower compared to the previous week’s trading session. The total turnover for this week was Rwf516,164,100 from 1,150,100 BoK shares and 186,000 Bralirwa shares traded in 56 deals compared to the last week’s trading session which recorded a total turnover of Rwf667,395,800 from 628,200 BoK shares and 555,600 Bralirwa shares traded in 56 deals.
